The process of whitening teeth has been around since the ancient Egyptians, however of course, the treatment process has changed dramatically
With the latest developments in modern dental technology, lasers have even begun being used to whiten teeth. At Kitchener Street Dental, we offer laser tooth whitening, but it may not be suitable for every patient, which is why an initial consultation is required.
Laser teeth whitening is great for patients who are suffering from tooth discolouration or staining.
But what stains teeth?
It’s important to know that laser teeth whitening will not work for everyone. The following patients are not suitable for teeth whitening:
Before undergoing laser tooth whitening treatment, our team at Kitchener Street Dental will perform a dental checkup to look for any current dental problems and also clean and polish your teeth.
If you are a suitable patient for laser tooth whitening, and after your teeth have been cleaned, we will apply a strong bleach to your teeth which is heated and activated using a laser.
This laser enhances the effectiveness and speeds up the whitening process.
Since the bleach contains high concentration levels, special precautions will be taken, which may include:
Once in-chair laser whitening is completed, you will be provided with take-home whitening trays to maintain your whiter smile overtime.
Laser tooth whitening is extremely effective, it’s generally the quickest and best treatment method.
You will see the immediate results and improvement in the colour of your teeth. Treatment results do vary per patient; however, you will see an improvement in colour of up to multiple shades whiter.
Generally, your whitening results should last up to two years, however it depends on many factors. Including your dental hygiene routine, what kinds of foods and drinks you consume, whether you smoke or not, and many other lifestyle factors.
Laser tooth whitening is extremely safe when administered by a dental professional who is trained in laser dentistry. You should practically never experience any damage to your teeth from a dentist.
Tooth whitening by a laser may cause sensitivity, as teeth can become dry during the whitening process. This sensitivity may last a few days; however it should dissipate within 48 hours usually.
Of course, there are also small chances of chemical burns if the bleaching agent comes into direct contact with your gum tissue. This chemical burn is referring to the take-home touch-up whitening kits you will receive.
At Kitchener Street Dental, our team has undergone sufficient training required to perform laser teeth whitening treatments. We will whiten your smile up to multiple shades.
